Why Join?
Membership has many benefits. Enjoy an outdoor sport in the beautiful surroundings of the Exmoor National Park. You'll meet like-minded people and enjoy the social side of club life. We have a fully equipped clubhouse with a self-serve galley, lounge area, changing rooms and hot showers.
You can join for recreational sailing or take part in our all-year-round racing programme on Sundays. Our club racing is open to novices, but we also have national champions in their class. Inclusion is key and we strongly encourage newcomers and juniors. We have an informal annual dinner and prizegiving a great opportunity to sit down without wetsuits (!) and chat.
During the summer months the club is also open on Saturday and Wednesday evenings. Our Wednesday evening format is very relaxed with an emphasis on fun, usually a BBQ and some informal (but popular) racing where rules are less important than inclusion and having fun!
More information on Opening times can be found on the website.
Boats
Most members end up buying their own boat in the long run, but we have some club boats that are available to use; all we ask is that you contribute to their maintenance by paying a small fee. You can berth your boat at Wimbleball to make the logistics easier.
We even have a club tug called a Multimover. This has proved incredibly useful to members who own large, heavier boats who can now rely on some extra muscle to assist with launching and recovering from the slipway. Ask one of the Duty Team and they will be happy to train you.
We are active on WhatsApp and Facebook. You are welcome to join one of the WhatsApp groups to keep in touch with other members and ask advice or share your plans or stories.
What do we ask of you?
The club is volunteer run. It wouldn't operate without a little bit of your precious time to help. We ask that you do around 3 volunteer duties per membership year. Duties can include assisting in the race hut, clubhouse or safety boat. No experience is necessary. You will receive guidance from more experienced members, and, in time, you might find yourself wanting to qualify to drive a safety boat or learn how to be a Race Officer. Most members enjoy doing their duty and it is surprisingly rewarding to contribute to club life. Think of the success of Parkrun in your local community, only made possible by a core team each week.
Your duties are a requirement of club membership, but in exceptional circumstances we understand it may not be possible for you to fulfil those duties. We offer an opt-out (no duty) fee. Please talk to us during your membership application if you think this is necessary.
Membership Account
Your membership will include access to the club membership "portal" on the website. Your portal will be a go-to place to find out everything you need to know about:
- Your membership records including any boats you own
- Renewing your membership and making changes, such as adding boats
- The club calendar with details of upcoming events
- Club documents, such as volunteering guides or minutes of meetings
- The club Bye Laws, the rules that govern your membership.
- Volunteering details including the Duty Roster and Swapping tools.
- And much more.
There's more to learn about the club, but those are the essentials. If you have questions, please contact:
